Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) has been around for centuries and has developed into lots of different forms including Muay Tai, Jujitsu and Karate.

So what are the exercise benefits of doing MMA?

Firstly it is an excellent exhilarating physical workout out. Doing around one hour of sparring or grappling moves can burn between 400-450 calories.

MMA fighters are some of the most superior, well-rounded, Olympic-caliber athletes of the day. Having your mind and body focused at each MMA session can lead you to improve personal confidence and discipline. This will also positively enhance physical aspects, in addition will also improve mind sets for with dealing with work and life situations.

When you increase your confidence levels you are more able to step outside your comfort zone, which is where life changes can happen, the disciplines you learn can help you to organise and plan your life and work schedules and help to focus on better health options by choosing healthier food options to improve all aspects of your life and improve training regime.

Self-defence is a big part of MMA, when a fighter goes into conflict they need to know a range of techniques to help them survive each contest. What you learn in MMA can vary depending on the style you do. However the core benefits from all of these will be improved fitness, self-control, confidence and discipline.

Aerobic fitness, such as street Dance has great benefits for the body overall but particularly in the function and health of your heart. It can improve its functionality and its strength. It can help reduce resting rate (beats per minute) and potentially reduce the risk of disease.

The lungs also benefit from increased functionality and increase capacity during and after exercise. It helps towards reducing the percentage of body fat and increase oxygen intake. By working the body this way ,it improves muscle tone, which leads to better posture and confidence .

Not only physical change takes place but a mind-set too. The benefits of social interaction by simply attending an exercise class. This alone can help distract from mundane daily routines or life situations. This distraction helps to stimulate mind sets that can help decrease things like depression and anxiety. Once you stimulate Endorphins in the body, with exercise we feel happier, content and good about ourselves and our surroundings.
